How to Banish Stains from Laminate Flooring

Laminate floors are well-known for being notoriously difficult to keep clean. However, they’re also one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to spruce up a hallway or kitchen. If you’ve got a laminate floor that you love, and you don’t want to have to give in to the stress of stains, don’t worry. These simple steps will help you to get your laminate floor sparkling again in no time!

Step 1: Remove Any Excess

If the stain you’re trying to remove is particularly thick, such as a dollop of paint or gloss, then begin by using a utility blade to gently scrape some of the excess material away from the surface. Make sure you don’t go all the way through the stain and damage your laminate floor.

Step 2: Add Cleaning Solution

You can either use a specially-made laminate floor cleaning solution, or a blend of vinegar and water to soak the stain. Leave the liquid on the stain for at least ten minutes, to really give it chance to break down the dirt. If you’re certain you can avoid scratching your floor, you can always gently score the top of the stain with your knife, to help break down the substance, and give your cleaning solution more surface area to work with.

Step 3: Scrub!

Finally, wrap a fabric cloth around your finger, and press the material firmly into the surface of the floor, rubbing gently in a circular motion. Push front to back, then left to right, followed by simple circles. It may take a while for the stain to start lifting, so you’re going to need to make sure you’re prepared to use a little energy.

If the stain doesn’t lift after a minute or two, add the cleaning solution again, and let it soak for a little longer. Eventually, you will have a beautiful, stain-free laminate floor that you’re proud to show your guests!
